The study is carried out to collect and describe archive materials, define historical stages of development and functioning of one of the first working men’s clubs in Magnitogorsk as well document materials about the cultural heritage site in the Southern Ural related to the history of the mining administration, cultural life and social activities of mineworkers in the period of Magnitostroy (settlement and construction of Magnitogorsk) in the 1930s. With references to archive sources the article addresses chronological stages of construction and operation of mineworkers’ clubs and offers conclusions regarding further usage of the building that hosted the former club near Ezhovka Mount. The study outlines such issues as identification and determination of the historical and cultural value of the preserved club, granting of the heritage reservation status for the cultural and historic monument of the regional significance, restoration and inclusion in the touristic group of municipal and regional significance. The study includes comparisons with projects implemented by architects from Moscow and abroad. The results are based on on-site inspection summaries: building drawings and surveys; photos, newspapers and archive materials. The study is based on the comparison with buildings of Moscow clubs: Rotfront (Krasny Proletary printing house), Dzerzhinsky builders’ club, ZIL Cultural Center in Proletarsky district. The analysis points out a certain similarity of Magnitogorsk club buildings with designs made by VKhUTEMAS (Higher Art and Technical Studios, Moscow) and foreign architects who worked in Magnitogorsk from 1931 to 1936. It proposes an explanation of the stylistic relation between architecture of first clubs in Magnitogorsk and functionalist architectural designs.
