The article is focused on Russian supply base of key alloying metals used in steelmaking (manganese, chromium, titanium, vanadium, tungsten, molybdenum, niobium, nickel, strontium) and the degree of provision of the domestic iron industry with them. At the present time, almost all these metals, except for nickel, are imported at a various scale, first of all in the form of ore and concentrates, and ferro-alloys and metals. At the same time, Russia possesses deposits of such metals, and introduction of these deposits in operation can theoretically satisfy the internal needs in full. Among the promising fields are Porozhinskoe and Usinskoe manganese deposits, Aganozerskoe chromium deposit, titanium placers in the Tomsk Region and Stavropol Territory, Skrytoe, Tyrnyauz and Agylkinskoe tungsten deposits, molybdenum–porphyry fields in the Southern Siberia, Bolshetagninskoe, Beloziminskoe and Zashikhinskoe niobium deposits. The authors also characterize nonconventional and alternative sources of alloying metals, including mine waste materials such as tailings, metallurgical and ferroalloy slugs, ashes and slugs of condensation power plants and petroleum derivatives. |
