In 1931 the nascent Northern Geology Trust—the ancestor of “Arkhangelskgeoldobycha” JSC—launched systematic and comprehensive large-scale geological exploration of the local area. By the mid-1960s the mineral and raw material base had been prepared for the regional alumina, cement, pulp-and-paper productions, building industry and road construction. In the Nenets Autonomous District, the first gas-condensate pools were discovered. The Arkhangelsk Territory Geological Survey was established in 1975 and in after years it was reorganized into the public undertaking (PU) of “Arkhangelskgeologia” that mainly focused on stimulation of oil and gas exploration in the Nenets Autonomous District, prospecting and exploration of hard minerals and creation of the modern geological support of the national economy. Geologic exploration of oil and gas was implemented by 7 oil-and-gas exploration companies and 1 geophysical surveying company. Experts of “Arkhangelskgeologia” PU discovered 75 oil-and-gas fields. As economic reforms were introduced in the country, “Arkhangelskgeologia” PU was restructured into “Arkhangelskgeoldobycha” JSC that phased down as the oil and gas exploration and oil mining company in 2008. Hard mineral exploration was implemented by 5 geological surveying companies and covered the entire area of the Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous District. Deposits of diamonds, construction stone and various construction materials and bauxites were discovered as well as freshwater and underground water resources were found. In 1996 the discovered diamond pipe was named after distinguished man in archeology, geologist Vladimir Grib. Since then “Arkhangelskgeoldobycha” JSC is mainly engaged in development of the V. Grib Pipe invested with the status of the commercial deposit in 2005. The most important principal of further development of “Arkhangelskgeoldobycha” JSC is the consolidated activity aimed at steadfast adherence to ecology standards, professional improvement of personnel, enhancement of the position in the world’s diamond-mining industry, and accumulation of rich resource base in the northwest of our country. “Arkhangelskgeoldobycha” JSC deliberately effects the policy of the social-responsible business oriented on consolidation of social and economic stability in the Arkhangelsk Region.
