This paper presents the results of assessment of initial total resources of hydrocarbon raw materials of Komi Republic within the boundaries of the Timan-Pechora oil and gas province. In comparison with the previous assessment (as of January 1, 2002), the hydrocarbon resource base of the Republic has increased by 15%, including 21 % of oil and 6.6% of free gas. There is presented the distribution of resources in oil and gas bearing regions and areas of Komi Republic. There are also considered the reasons for changes in hydrocarbon resource base. The most prospective oil and gas exploration trends for Komi Republic are proposed. It is concluded that results of the research could be used during the planning of oil and gas exploration in the Komi Republic, formation of middle- and long-term programs for resource base development, and planning of social policy of the Republic.
