Institute of Geology of Komi Science Center of Ural Department of Russian Academy of Sciences is a large multi-function center of academician geological science at European North-East. This Institute provides the estimation of the following factors: geological structure; geohistorical development; mineral resources of Komi Republic and neighbouring regions; interdepartmental and inter-regional coordination of geological researches. At the same time, the Institute carries out the brief complex of fundamental and applied researches practically in all ways of Earth sciences. This article describes the basic directions of activities and the most important achievements of Institute. There is defined the significant role of Institute in investigation, research and mastering of mineral resources of the region; development of new forecasting methods; searchings and estimation of mineral deposits. There is described the active participation of personnel of Institute in development of the range of special large problems and realization of interdisciplinary projects with their leading to practical realization. Efficient solving of fundamental and applied problems of scientific and technical developments is provided by the main type of geological activities – expedition workings, carried out not only in Timan North Ural region, but also far from its boundaries (in Siberia, Transbaikalia, Taimyr and Kola Peninsula). The scientists from USA, Brazil, China, Great Britain, Poland, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Japan are the participants in the field operations. Scientists from the Institute participate in foreign researches – in Australia, Brazil, Germany, Finland, Estonia, USA, Italy and China.
