Maleevskoe deposit of rich polymetallic ore in eastern Kazakhstan has been using the continuous heading-and stall method with hardening filling for more than 10 years. Experimental and analytical model was used for the descrition of natural stressed massif. This model is based on the assumption that the stress field is created by two active processes: gravitation (dead weight of vertical rocks) and horizontal tectonic movements of the Earth crust. For the purpose of determination of unknown parameters of the model, the in situ measurements were carried out at Maleevskoe deposit, using the slot relief method (2007), and partial relief method through the center hole (2012).
In both experiments, the tectonic stresses across the reach of ore zones, appeared to have the highest values. According to this, these stresses are by 1.5-1.9 times higher than the vertical pressure imposed by strata. The values of natural horizontal stresses by the reach of ore zones are close to the vertical pressure of superincumbent rocks with the pressure ratio at 0.7-1.0.
The results, obtained at the Maleevskoe deposit, reaffirm the fact, which was established by many researchers at various deposits: directions of natural stresses are rather closely connected with geological structure of massifs (in particular, with the reach and dip of ore zones), whereas the magnitude of actual stresses can widely vary due to the block structure of massif: hard (less fractured) blocks are under higher stress than incompetent (more fractured) blocks.
