Abstract

Quality of finished products, obtained from different types of natural and mancaused mineral raw materials, often directly depends on feed materials' crushing efficiency. Fused alumina, e.g., is classified among such materials' types. A promising type of a machine, to be applied for such material, is inertia cone crusher. The article considers mechanical and processing aspects of VKD300 inertia cone crusher' operation at white fused alumina plant of OAO «RUSAL Boxitogorsk» alumina refinery. The machine's movable operating elements' vibration amplitude frequency characteristic has been plotted, crushing ratio and throughput rate are determined. The technology experiments' results are summarized in the table. Crushed fused alumina packing density variation is shown as a curve. Parallel comparison testings were conducted with an operating DG 200х125 crusher. The acquired experimental processing data permitted to verify the adequacy of the earlier developed mechanicalandmathematical model of inertia cone crusher. The main processing task has been accomplished — production of «narrow» sizefraction with particle size from –3 to +1 mm, necessarily with sharp grain edges. It was corroborated, that transfer of crusher's elastic system into vibration dynamic damping regime permits to lower crusher body's vibrational amplitude practically to zero, increase unbalanced mass drive reliability of operation, as well as achieve up to 75 % «narrow» sizefraction product yield with required particle shape.
