Joint dissolution of butyl sodium xanthate and butyl potassium xanthate in hard water leads to formation of solid residue, which hampers dosing of reagents due to hardness deposition on pipe walls, and clogging of filters under dosers. Using complexometric titration, residue composition was studied. It was established, that it was a mixture of 61.9 % of carbonate and thiocarbonate sodium compounds with 38.1 % of magnesium carbonate trihydrate. The main cause for residue formation is interaction between alkiearth cations, present in feed water used for dissolution, and carbonate and thiocarbonate anions, present in xanthate in approximate quantity of 4 %, as well as high alkalinity of collectors solutions, being responsible for hydrocarbonate ions transition into carbonate ions. In order to prevent deposition of residue, it is recommended to use complex former, able to form watersoluble complexes with alkiearth cations. Reagent was given a name of hardness regulator (HR). Its consumption was 0.4–0.6 kg per cubic meter of water to dissolve collectors. The proposed regime was successfully tested under commercial conditions.
