This article considers the formation and calculation of losses and dilution of mineral resources in relation to the underground mining processing of non-metallic deposits of construction materials.

It is noted that the production of enterprises of construction materials is regulated by the maximum permissible content of useful and harmful components. In this case, there may be the undermining value of deads by the geological contacts, which provides a minimum limit on the content of useful component in the final product, and a maximum limit on the content of harmful components. Thereby, the maximum of profit is reached from 1 tonne of canceled balance reserves. According to this, the losses of minerals in a massif with an excavation of reserves on the geological contacts, are defined by the processing contour with a maximum allowed undermining of deads.

There is proposed an optimal content rate, of respectively useful or harmful components in the final product, which is defined by the contents of this component in the balance reserves in deads, and the permissible content of the component in the final product. This rate characterizes the ratio of undermining area of deads to the cross-sectional area of mine working. Usage of this index allows to calculate the losses in massif and dilution of mineral resources through the involvement of deads in extraction, according to the optimum position of the contour of reserves development.

This paper gives an example of calculation of losses and dilution of mineral resources by the cross and one-piece development systems. There are indicated the locations, sources and formation stages of exploitation losses and dilution. The sequence of extraction degrees is given along with the formulas for calculation of losses and dilution of mineral resources for the cross and one-piece development systems.
