For about 20 years, “VIOGEM” JSC is using the licensed software GMS (Growndwater Modeling System) in its scientific and technical project works. The GMS software was developed by the laboratory of Brigham Young university as the USA standard. The interface of GMS includes 10 independent modules (TIN, Borehole, Solid, 2D Mesh, 2D Grid, 2D Scatter Point, 3D Mesh, 3D Scatter Point, Map, GIS), which combination allows to enter and adapt the initial geological, hydrogeological and technological information for the construction of any complexity models of industrial and civil objects. According to the solved problems, the hydrogeological models were created on the basis of the following programs: MODFLOW, MT3D, MODPATH, FEMWATER, SEEP2D, MODAEM or T-PROGS. These programs are the components of GMS and are connected with its interface. The GMS program allows to use the numerical methods both as final differences, and final elements.

“VIOGEM” institute has a wide experience of numerical models development of mineral deposits` drainage systems, on the basis of GMS in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Nigeria, Vietnam, and, in the first instance, the iron ore deposits of Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (Belgorod region, Russia). The constant-operating regional geofiltration model was created for the iron ore area, which includes Lebedinskoe, Stoilenskoe, Korobkovskoe, Prioskolskoe and Chernyanskoe iron ore deposits. The model was developed on a personal supercomputer and covers the area nearby 7000 km2. The model is used for the real time mode calculations by the development variants of drainage systems on operating and projected open-pits. The modeling is carried out with the usage of telescoping principle and creation of local models on characteristic current bands.
