Abstract

The article presents the results of processing studies on oxidized fer ruginous quartzites, containing ~ 37 % hematite and ~ 14 % magnetite. In the ore sample provided for the experiments, magnetite was to a certain degree oxidized and replaced with hematite, occurring as several varieties in quartz, mica, carbonates and hematite. Nonhomogeneity of magnetite composition and properties, caused by degree of oxidation, affected its processing properties. A magnetic flotation processing flow sheet was developed in order to produce magnetite-hematite concentrate with iron content of 66.3 %. If two concentrates magnetite and hematite are to be produced, addition al grinding of magnetite concentrate and its magnetic separation in weak field are required. The advantage of two concentrate production flow sheet is decreased flotation circuit. Joint flotation of magnetite and hematite concentrates, produced by magnetic separation, provided for almost 40 % decrease in collector consumption. On the basis of the conducted studies, the technology of joint magnetite-hematite concentrate production is recommended, if separation of magnetite concentrate is not necessary.
