Abstract For the last few years, the use of Press-Hardened Steels (PHS) for the body-in-white (BIW) structure has been booming. The reason: highly complex parts can be drawn without spring-back problems; significant weight reduction can be achieved thanks to the use of tailored blanks made of boron steels while offering significant crash safety improvements. A new steel grade for the most demanding crash zones made it possible to significantly expand the application area of press-hardened tailored blanks.
