Gadolinium manganite GdMnO3 epitaxial thin films have been grown on single crystal neodymium gallate (001) Nd-GaO3 and strontium titanate (001) SrTiO3 substrates using HF magnetron sputtering. RBS analysis has shown that the thickness of the resultant films was approx. 100 nm, and their chemical composition corresponded to the claimed sostoichiometry. X−ray diffraction analysis of the structure and phase composition of the resultant films has shown that all the films are single phase but have one or more types of orientation relative to the substrate depending on substrate temperature during sputtering. For gadolinium manganite films on neodymium gallate substrates, X−ray diffraction analysis data and high resolution electron microscopy data have been confirmed. The temperature dependence of the magnetic permeability of the films has features suggesting the occurrence of phase transitions in GdMnO3 that were observed earlier in single crystal specimens.
