Abstract The aim of this study is to select a heating mode for which the growth of Bi0,4Sb1,6Te3 (p−type) grains would be insignificant, and the nanoscale size would be retained (particle size less than 100 nm) while obtaining mechanically tough bulk Bi0,4Sb1,6Te3 (p−type). I show that a complete dissolution of the excess tellurium occurs at 250 °C and above, and a spinodal decomposition takes place at temperatures of above 400 °C.
