On modern wire mills, coil rolled metal with a diameter of 5.5 mm is produced with a rolling speed of 100-120 m/s. Due to deformation heating, the temperature of the rolled metal rises, and is 1000–1100 °С in the end of rolling. The production of rolled metal with a diameter of 4.0–5.0 mm compared with one of a diameter of 5.5 mm is associated with a decrease in the design productivity of the mill, as well as the difficulty of rolled metal temperature control. To achieve a rational combination of the structure and mechanical properties of steel, it is necessary to have the ability to control the temperature of the end of rolling. Based on the analysis of the deformation-heat treatment modes, the rational parameters of the controlled regulation of the structure formation processes in the production of coil rolled metal with a diameter of 4–5 mm from low- and high-carbon steels have been determined. The research results showed that the traditional scheme of the equipment of the tail section of the wire mill with a single finishing block stand is ineffective for the production of coil rolled products with a diameter of 4–5 mm. The temperature-time processing conditions depend on the steel grade, but have little relation to the diameter of the coil rolled products. At deformation-thermal processing of coil rolled products, it is recommended to carry out subcooling to a winding temperature of A1 200–250 °C, and then cool them down with accelerated rate (15–20 °C/s) for high-carbon steel, and with low rate (~1.0 °C/s) for low-carbon steel. The most important parameters for controlling the technology of high-speed rolling in the production of coil rolled products of a small diameter include the effective configuration of the main equipment at the tail section of the mill, the layout and characteristics of the cooling devices, the diameter of the feed at the entrance to the block. Taking into account the increase in rolling speed to compensate for a decrease in mill productivity, this will allow to expand the dimensional assortment of rolled steel to a diameter of 4-5 mm.
