Abstract

The system PropertyMon for on-line non-destructive electromagnetic measurements of mechanical and magnetic properties (such as tenslie strength and yield strength, hardness, alternating magnetization losses, polarization) is described. Laboratoial investigations of the hundreds of specimens taken from steel strips have demonstrated direct correlation between measured electromagnetic values and magnetic properties of material. Different calibration classes are used for different strip thicknesses providing improvement of measuring precision. The combination of electromagnetic measuring principle and multi-factor linear regression analysis is realized in the testing system of continuous annealing line for electrotechnical steel strip. It allows to determine magnetic properties in longitudinal and transversal directions in relation to strip motion. It is shown that the measuring system provides continuous determination of material properties for control of technological parameters and product quality (in addition to standard destructive tests). Such complex analysis was finalized in the large-scale operating system.
