The use of lubricant during hot rolling of a strip enables to reduce the load on the equipment and wear of work rolls. At a number of factories of foreign companies, lubrication of the rolls of individual stands of strip mills finishing groups, and in some cases of reversing stands, is used. Many foreign experts are aware of the need to lubricate the rolls during hot rolling of thin sheets. Installations to supply oil emulsion to the surface of work rolls of a continuous group of stands are mounted in industrial mills. Studies of the effect of lubrication on the strip hot rolling processes allow to draw important conclusions. Lubrication significantly reduces energy-power parameters, electricity consumption for rolling, increases the service life of the rolls. Reducing the friction coefficient and shear stresses in the nearcontact layers not only prevents damage of a roll surface layer, but also has a significant impact on the texture of bands, increasing their ability to deep drawing. Under the condition of reliable operation of lubrication systems, it becomes possible to expand the mix of sheet rolling mills and possibilities for adjusting the temperature and speed modes in order to improve quality of hot rolled strips and increase the durability of the working tool.
