Abstract

The experience of of the remote control over structures of the tailings storage area at Stoilensky Mining and Processing Plant allows revealing basic ways toward improvement of dam stability monitoring equipment. Jointly developed by specialists of VSEGINGEO and the Chair of Geology at the College of Mining, Orfei-1 system with the wireless data transmission was successfully put into operation at a check site of the main dam at the tailings pond of Stoilensky MPP in 2013. The trials and operation of the system proved its stability and capability of interactive computation of the hydraulic in wash structure stability factor. The developed bundled software, routine site surveys aimed to refine data on properties of rock mass at the dam foundations and the remote acquisition of hydrogeological information enables highly accurate assessment of the current condition of the dams and, thus, ensures environmental and industrial safety of mining and processing waste storage.
The studies have been carried out with the participation of A. M. Galperin, Professor, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, College of Mining, MISIS and A. L. Klimashevsky, Tailings Storage Area Manager, Stoilensky MPP.
