Thanks to the innovations in engineering of conveyor belts possessing high strength, low extension as well as pre-set lateral stiffness and elasticity, long belt conveyors are increasingly often used in construction of spatial curved transportation lines. Recently, long high-capacity belt conveyors widely use roller carriages with a shorter middle roller. For such roller carriages, the dependences are obtained to find an optimal ratio of the lengths of the middle and side rollers in order that the roller bearing boxes are subjected to uniform loading. Also, the authors present graphic charts of the theoretical cross-section areas of cargo on belts with ordinary roller carriages and with the shorter middle roller. Design features of the roller carriages for horizontal curved sections of a belt line are given, and recommendations are made on their installation with the centering of the belt. The presence of curved sections in a belt conveying line governs the choice of the conveyor belt design, namely, its lateral stiffness that is ensured by rubber steel wire rope conveyor belts or multi-ply conveyor belts. Installation of intermediate drives decreases the maximum tension of the belts in such type conveyors, which allows using the belts with the lower breaking strength and, accordingly, at lower cost. The inclusion of the intermediate drives in the cargo belt in front of its curved horizontal section reduces tension of the belts, which makes it possible to scale down the curvature radius in this section.
