Abstract

Transition to deeper level mining and geodynamic disequilibrium in the long-term mining regions complicates geodynamic situation in mines. Different monitoring systems are used to control the situation and abate the risk of dynamic events. When packaged to the fullest extent as in the mines of Apatit Company, for example, the current monitoring systems incorporate regional monitoring (first of all, seismic monitoring), local observations in mines and mathematical modeling of stress–strain state of rocks. However, such package appears insufficient in terms of geodynamic safety. The available facilities should be added with an intermediate level (primarily, seismo-acoustic and deformation control) and with the in-situ stress state control using direct and indirect methods. For the implementation of these ideas in the mines of Apatit, under the guidance of specialists from the Research Center for Geomechanics of the Saint-Petersburg Mining University, an integrated monitoring system is being deployed, including the local acoustic and stationary seismo-acoustic control systems designed at the Institute of Mining, FEB RAS, and some new instruments to control deformation and condition in underground openings and in deep rock mass areas.

The present research has been carried out under the contract with Apatit Company, and the authors express their deep gratitude to I. V. Salnikov, P. A. Korchak and other staff members of Apatit for the advertency and help in the deployment of the integrated monitoring system.
