The article shows the development of the coal industry in the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia in the period from 2000 to 2015, including coking and steam coal mining and coal production in the regional subjects, coal supply, investment in fixed assets of enterprises in coal mining and average prices of 1 ton of delivered product. The share of the Far Eastern Federal District in the total volume of coal production in Russia amounted to 10.8% in 2015. The main focus of the Far East coal supplies are still power plants despite the fact that in relation to 2007 their volume decreased by 1 million tons, and the share has decreased by almost 9%.
