The paper examines the structure and mechanical properties of samples of 316L steel powder manufacured via selective laser sintering. The results of chemical and granulometric analysis of initial material and static testing of samples for extension are presented. Morphology of samples fracture is considered. It is established that 316L steel powder has regular spheric form. It is shown that usage of destructive control methods becomes economically non-efficient owing to high cost of consumed materials used in production of the components vis selective laser sintering. The problem of usage of computer tomography for examination of the components to reveal internal defects is considered. Satellite defects and “amorphous” armour are the most frequently met defects of this powder. The pores with diameter up to 50 μm that have been found on the fracture surface after fractographic tests are connected probably with the features of the chosen conditions of selective laser sintering. It is displayed that the components made of 316L steel powder can be used in extension and cyclic loads, that is stipulated by high material ductility.
