National, European and international competences for the production and use of steel are consolidated under the aegis of the Stahl-Zentrum in Düsseldorf. As one of the organizations based here, the Steel Institute VDEh promotes the joint technical-scientific work of the steel companies on the further development of steel technology and the material steel itself. Plant producers, suppliers and customers are integrated into the process. The competences of joint pre-competitive work are organized into specialist departments, involved in the initiation and support of research and development work. The topics examined include process technology, further processing, and the use of steel. The departments are also involved in the creation of standards and regulations, as well as publication of the results of the joint work in specialist periodicals, books and at conferences.
