Russian processing plants widely apply flotation, the gross flotation output makes more than 220 Mt of ore per year. The demand for flotation machines is conditioned by introduction of new flotation capacities at processing plants and redesign of morally obsolete and inefficient flotation circuits at processing stages. The analytical studies by InfoMine Research Group shows that in the recent 10 years new flotation equipment has been installed at 45 newly built and modernized plants in Russia (apart from dormant plants). The overall annual productiveness of flotation equipment, by estimate, is round 130 Mt of mineral raw material per initial feed. Large-scale manufacturers of flotation machines in Russia are RIVS (Saint-Petersburg), Usolmash LLC (Irkutsk Region) and TRUD PLANT (Novosibirsk). Russian suppliers have covered more than 20% of Russia’s demand for flotation machines in the last decade. At the same time, it is typical of Russia to maintain high import of flotation machines, in 2005–2012 there was a trend of increasing import of flotation machines in Russia in connection with reequipment of processing plants and construction of new facilities. The maximum import volume of 84 million USD was recorded in 2012. The most popular at Russian processing plants are flotation machines manufactured by:
— Finnish Outotec (former Outokumpu)—Russian market share at the level of 35%;
— FLSmidth, the flotation division of this company manufactures a few types of flotation machines under brand names SuperCel, Wemco and Dorr-Oliver, Russian market share is 17%;
— Eriez Mineral Flotation Group (former CPT) takes 13% of the Russian market. The company specializes in manufacturing pneumatic flotation machines of column type;
— Metso Finish–Swedish company with the Russian market share of 5.6%;
— other foreign companies (China, Norway and others) taking 7.4% of the Russian market.
RIVS as a Russian manufacturer takes round 12% of the Russian market and actively supplies flotation equipment in the countries of near and far abroad. Russia’s second supplier of flotation machines is Usolmash LLC with its share of 10% on the Russian market. Usolmash company was established in September 2014 based on the bankrupt Usolmash Production Association. Flotation machines by Usolmash operate at many processing plants in Russia. The third manufacturer of flotation machines in Russia, TRUD PLANT in Novosibirsk delivers small capacity cells. From the analysis of installation of flotation machines at Russian processing plants in 2005–2014, the largest consumers of the equipment are plants processing complex, apatite and gold ore. Nearly 40% of flotation capacities (90 Mt of initial ore) need replacement and upgrading. This overview yields that construction of new flotation plants and floors in Russia may develop in accordance with the optimistic, baseline and pessimistic scenarios. The optimistic version assumes accomplishment of all projects put forward by license holders. The baseline scenario implements projects on expansion of the existing capacities and construction of low-capacity processing plants while expensive investment projects are to be postponed. Under the pessimistic scenario, expansion and new construction are almost ceased except for the already heavily invested projects.
