Abstract

Current economical conditions stipulate strong market activity in the iron and steel industry, thereby economical efficiency and technological flexibility are strictly required. It also drives steel producers to increase their product quality while at the same time reducing production costs. Permanent improvement of quality of finished products, modernization of production activities and putting into practice the new technologies are the pledge for efficient plant development. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to have not only production facilities that can answer to market demands today, but also enough flexibility to be able to follow future trends. This paper observes construction of the new bloom continuous caster in Japan, developed, manufactured and mounted by Primetals Technologies Austria GmbH. This caster operated using the technology of soft dynamic reduction. MoldExpert system presents information about state of the mould. After the successful installation of five double-strand slab casters in its Dangjin facility, Hyundai Steel decided to award a contract to Primetals Technologies to build the world’s most advanced fourstrand bloom caster at its new facility for the production of automotive steel grades. DynaGap 3-D system overview is displayed and composition-critical solidification is analyzed. Electromagnetic stirring and quenching facilities are overviewed.
