A new composition of grouting mortar is offered for long-term reinforcement of loose, unconsolidated and clayey rocks in open pit walls. It has experimentally been proved that strength of such rocks can be essentially enhanced. For higher efficiency, the grouting mortar was subjected to ultrasonic pre-treatment. It is found that rheological properties of composites can be improved under ultrasonic oscillation. Viscosity of the chemical solution after treatment by ultrasonic frequency of 25 kHz for 5 min under laboratory conditions has doubles. The article illustrates feasibility of adjusting physico-mechanical characteristics of unstable rocks using grouting mortar since rock strength after the treatment increases. In clayey rocks treated with the grouting mortar, internal friction angle and plastic index reduce while cohesion grows. The research has confirmed the dependence of strength characteristic of clayey rocks on their composition. It is found that treatment of clayey rocks using the proposed method allows adjusting their characteristics in a wide range. It is proved that the offered grouting mortar can be an efficient tool of dust control, wall rock reinforcement and rock slide prevention in open pit mines.
