Abstract

The paper considers the problems of improvement of quality and technical-economical parameters for wide range of steel grades using steel modifying. It is shown that usage of complex modifiers for liquid steel processing allows to receive globular non-metallic inclusions with required morphology as well to increase mechanical properties of the metal and its corrosion resistance. Chemical composition of different modifiers is compared. The results of steel processing of different application (stainless steel, wheel steel, high-strength structural steel, cast rail steel etc.) by micro-crystalline modifiers are presented. The results of mechanical and corrosion testings of 20ХФ steel used in oil and gas pipelines are observed. The role of barium and rare-earth elements in metal quality improvement is revealed. Physical and physical-chemical parameters of barium, calcium and their compounds are displayed. 08X18T1 steel quality is also evaluated via surface quality data analysis after slab grinding after rolling.
