The paper presents the important strategic grounds about providing the conventional integrated metallurgical plant with coke. Conventional coke batteries are described in comparison with construction of SunCoke furnaces. The results of continuous monitoring of gas composition during coal pyrolysis in laboratorial fur-nace are displayed. Efficiency rise due to usage of COG (H2) furnace is analyzed and the scheme of the coke shop with coking gas “hot” collector, heat recovery and electric power generation is shown. Usage of COG (H2) technology in blast furnace practice is considered. The proposed direction of improvement of cokemaking technology with production of coking gas enriched by hydrogen, in combination with development of coking and blast furnace processes as well as DRI and electric power generation technologies, increased substantially competitiveness of the classic coke-making technology in comparison with Heat Recovery technology and provide its consequent development. Probable application of gas separation technolo-gies in the conditions of Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works is examined.
