Abstract

Content of such elements as carbon, sulphur, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen in iron and steel products has substantial effect of different material properties (toughness, brittleness, hardness). Conventional task of quality control in iron and steel production is determination of content of these elements with high precision. The paper observes possibilities and advantages of usage of elemental analysis systems for solving this problem; they are also called as burning analyzers. Standard requirements for these analyzers, the process of samples preparation, the measuring and calibration processes are described. Operational range of burning analyzers and precision of its measuring results are observed. It is concluded that these analyzers have good productivity, provide exact carbon-bearing samples analysis that is independent from matrix and reliable for users. Wide opportunities for fractional analysis are opened.
