Abstract

The ways for iron ores wet magnetic separation slimes utilization as a powdering agent in expanded-clay aggregate production are suggested. The studies were performed on the Kachkanarsky and Goroblagodatsky Mining-and-Processing Complexes tailings of iron ores treatment. The choice of powdering agents is based on the supposition that refractory property of granules surface layer may be increased through powdering with refractory powder. The efficiency of granules surface powdering with iron ores processing tailings with a view to decrease bulk density of expanded-clay aggregate by 1–2 ranks has been proved. Bulk density is decreased through widening of bloating interval, and its shift to higher temperature range. To intensify clayey materials bloating process, metal-production facilities wastes were studied as corrective additives: dust of open-hearth furnace gas cleaning and blast-furnace flue dust, containing from 60 to 70 % of iron oxide Fe2O3. Flow sheets of iron ores processing tailings preparation with predrying and regrinding to required characteristics, and powdering agent introduction immediately prior to rotary kiln zone of bloating are proposed.
