Abstract

Study of possible prospects of drawing the Siberian Federal District iron ore deposits into mining and processing is considered to be an important long-range objective. This will permit to considerably decrease nonoptimal transportation of mined iron ore to long distances and promote industrial development in the District. The paper considers the Bakcharskoye iron ore deposit with prognostic resources of approximately 23 billion tons, the ores’ mass fraction of iron is 40 %. The ores are characterized by a higher vanadium content. A major hindrance in the deposit ores processing is caused by a higher-than-average phosphorus content. The paper presents the data obtained in the studies aimed at saleable concentrates production using fine grinding with subsequent magnetic separation in high-gradient magnetic separators of various types. The studies showed, that magnetic concentration of iron by means of high-gradient magnetic separators is possible in principle. However, the state-of-art physical-and-mechanical methods of fine grinding and high-gradient magnetic separation, tested in the reported stage of the studies, did not allow for removal of phosphorus from the Bakcharskoye deposit oxide iron ores.

The study was performed in the framework of the State task No. 5.1284.2014/K, dated the 11th of July, 2014, «Development of mineral resources reproduction technologies with a view to utilize man-caused mining and metals production sector wastes and formations in the Russian Federation with recovery of valuable components and output of additional marketable products».
