Реферат

Specialists from All-Russia Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean (VNIIOkeangeologiya) actively participate in the work of UNESCO Commission for the Geological Map of the World. Since 1974, the post of Vice-President of the Geological Map of the World in charge of the continental Sub-Commission for Antarctica has been traditionally held by a representative of the Institute’s Antarctic team. During this period, several overview geological and geophysical maps of Antarctica were prepared and published. Tectonic map of Antarctica, printed by the Geological Map of the World in 2012, is the most recent accomplishment summarizing of earlier products. The new map presents the historical knowledge of geological structure of Antarctic continent with discoveries of modern state-of-the-art isotopic and geochemical studies and results of recently obtained marine and airborne geophysical data. For the first time, tectonic framework of Antarctic mainland is combined with the structure of Circum-Antarctic offshore in one cartographic image, enabling significant refinement of earlier tectonic views and enhanced vision of geodynamic history of the whole Antarctic region. It is shown that convergent-related processes gained a leading role in the formation of continental crust in Mesoproterozoic time. According to this, there was suggested the possibility that early Precambrian continental protoliths had been emplaced before the global onset of plate tectonics. The Phanerozoic intraplate fold systems are recognized along with accretional orogens. The structure of the offshore sedimentary basins is revealed for the first time, and their geological history is presented in the context of Gondwana breakup.
