All-Russia Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean (VNIIOkeangeologiya) is the basic institute of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra) in the field of geological study of continental shelf, World Ocean, Arctic and Antarctic. Nowadays, the Institute has the following main directions of activities:
-research of oil and gas bearing capacity of Russian continental shelf;
-substantiation of the position of outer limit of the continental shelf by geological and geophysical methods;
-comprehensive assessment of mineral resources potential of Arctic and geological mapping of shelf;
-investigation and preparation for the field development of mineral resources of the World Ocean;
-geological and geophysical study of Antarctic;
-support of environmental safety and monitoring of geological environment at water areas.
