Abstract

High-strength bead wire with diameter 1.6 mm has been fabricated via direct drawing (without intermediate heat treatment) from sorbitized wire rod of 80 steel with diameter 5.5 mm. Initial wire rod has been subjected to thermo-mechanical treatment, including controlled accelerated water cooling down to temperature above Ac3 with subsequent intensive cooling at Stelmore transporter. Mechanical properties and microstructure of this wire rod and investigated bead wire have been analyzed. Parameters of fine crystalline ferrite structure in pearlite (α-phase) for 1.6 mm diameter wire were investigated via the method of approximation of shapes of X-ray interferences are presented. Influence of structure of a high-carbon wire-rod of the various composition, subjected to thermo-mechanical treatment, on qualitative characteristics of high-strength bead wire has been investigated. Average value of inter-plate distance in pearlite for wire rod made of 80 steel after thermo-mechanical treatment has been quickly calculated with 98% reliability using developed software for computation. It was established that high-strength bead wire, fabricated of high-carbon wire rod with its thermo-mechanical treatment and cooling with a speed 12–15 ºС/sec, is characterized by lack of metal stratification which is provided via reduction of carbon content in steel, restriction of manganese content and additional chromium introduction. It is also shown that elimination of stratification is mainly connected with increase of pearlite dispersion ability.
