Abstract

Shaped wire is widely used for manufacturing of ropes with closed design. The technological basis of manufacturing of shaped wire is the choice of the form and the sizes of the original billet and intermediate sections (profile calibration). Manufacturing of coldrolled shaped profile from round billet is accompanied by large heterogeneity of deformation, connected with difference of the form of cross-sections of initial and finished products, which causes difficulties in profile calibration. This obstacle is eliminated by use of “relative compression along the line” deformation indicator in calibration instead of the “relative compression on the square” deformation indicator, meeting the conditions of equality of the number of internal defects, formed in metal volumes during the deformation process. It is shown that the choice of the individual reductions for passes has effect on resistance of rolls. It is offered to use the modified principle of equal difference of inverse wire diameters for optimal distribution of the individual reductions for passes; this method is characterized by simplicity of calculation. Calibration of shaped sections using this principle allows to balance the increasing metal pressure on the mill rolls, associated with steel hardening during rolling, by decrease of relative reduction by passes, and, thus, to increase the resistance of rolls.
