The article presents one of the methods of processing and usage of steel oily scale for manufacture of charge material — scalecarbon briquette (SCB). Volumes of iron-containing waste materials in Russia increase permanently and the most part of these wastes is considered as unavailable for recycling. In particular, difficulties in application of oily rolling scale are connected with necessity of their preliminary degrease. Therefore, the main object of conducted researches was revealing of the efficient method of preparing oiled scale and its consequent usage as raw material for fabrication of briquettes. Conducted experiments and results of usage of such briquettes (fabricated from waste materials of metallurgical production at Volzhsky Pipe Plant) are described. Composition of investigated mix of oily scale and Ca(OH)2–H2O degreasing suspension is compared before and after drying. It was displayed that presence of Ca(OH)2 flux component is the serious advantage of such briquettes. Comparative phosphorus content in the alloys manufactured of fluxed and non-fluxed briquettes was the principal criterion of estimation of flux infl uence. Pilot melting of fluxed and non-fluxed mixes has been undertaken at the same time in the chamber electric furnace at the temperature 1250 ºC; chemical composition of obtained ingots is presented and analyzed. The results of experiments testified that usage of briquettes with flux additives increased slag amount in melting and decreased substantially phosphorus content in manufactured metal.
