Abstract

The article presents experience of simulation and computer-aided design software for hot rolling in order to develop production of high strength steel with significant level of plastic properties. Integrated algorithm of roll-pass design has been developed for wide hot strip mills into a program implemented with MS Excel Visual Basic For Application. Functional modules allowing to synthesize the structure in dialog procedure and to preset equipment parameters at different mill areas are provided in the program for description of the mill equipment. Among the used modules the following can be mentioned: “Parameters of intermediate rolling table” and “Analysis of properties”. About 35,000 actual values of roll force and rolling speed of strips of various sizes and grades were obtained. Roll-pass design of different profiles from modern high-strength steels for the automotive industry under wide hot strip mill 2000 JSC “MMK” (Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works) were suggested for implementation. Coefficients and evaluations of reliability of the models of rolling force and rolling torque are examined. The technique of calculation of genuine yield strength, taking into account varying of steel chemical composition from one melt to another, as well as to predict tensile strength of steels with unknown experimental results, is presented. Comparison of the results of computer-aided simulation with actual rolling parameters for ordinary steels and high-strength steels has displayed rather low deviation of predicted data for rolling force and rolling torque.
