Chernye Metally

The 2^nd issue of "Chernye Metally" journal (2014) as usual is opened with the section "Iron and steel news of the world" with brief information from Bangladesh, China, Germany, Italy, Russia, Slovenia, Taiwan and UAE.

The section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" is starting from the article written by O. M. Glita, A. Z. Ryzhavskiy and M. S. Gontarev from the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Research and Technology Center of Metallurgy Industry "Energostal" (Kharkov, Ukraine). It considers peculiarities of removal of dusted technological gases at electric arc furnace during intensification of steel smelting. The authors have developed the new design of water-cooled dust precipitation chamber and described its technical and economical characteristics.

Perspectivedirection in the development of production of competitive rolledproducts of special steels for strategicindustrial branches is observed in the article by Ya. I. Spektor, I. N. Kunitskaya, A. S. Salnikov, A. N. Tumko, M. E. Sazhin, Yu. V. Derkach from the State Enterprise "Ukrainian State Research Institute of Special Steels, Alloys and Ferroalloys" (Zaporozhye, Ukraine). The experience of the commercial testing of combined deformation and heat treatment, data analysis about the influence of technology on structure and properties of special steels and alloys are presented.

The last publication in the national metallurgy section is the paper "Investigation of the effect of cooling rate on forming the structure of wire rod made of 80P steel and intended for manufacture of high-strength reinforced bars". Dilatometrical testings of 80P steel, microalloyed with boron, have been conducted using GLEEBLE 3500 research complex. Qualitative and quantitative features of forming its microstructure during continuous cooling with different cooling rate (1.5-80 ºC/s) are established.

The hot blast stove plant is one of the key components to ensure reliable blast furnace operation. Therefore, the choice of a hot blast stove design type is therefore an important decision when planning new blast furnace plants or the construction of a new hot blast stove. It has an impact on cost of investment, cost of operation, plant availability and service life. These problems are discussed in the paper by the specialists of Paul Wurth Refractory & Engineering GmbH.

European system for trading the rights for emissions is the unique one worldwide. Other countries are trying to make attempts to put into practice such systems, however, they are characterized by other than in Europe attitude to energy-intensive industries: their interest are concerned slightly or not concerned at all. The results of investigation made by the Institute of German Economy (IW) are presented in the paper by H. Bardt, R. Berternrath and D. Christmann.

The article "Combination of SAP systems in continuous technological process" by R. Wittwen is expected to be interesting for specialized readership: it is devoted to finishing of the largest project in the history of ArcelorMittal in the field of data structural processing.

The new fully automatized ring rolling mill at Hofors works in Sweden, the largest mill of such kind worldwide, operated by Ovako Tube & Ring company has been put into practice three years; it can be characterized as a result of efficient investments providing not only quick and reliable technological process, but also substantial improvement of product quality and labour conditions. This innovation is described in the paper by K. Andersson from "Kuka Nordics AB".
